THE BACKGROUND OF AICC IN TANZANIA

The Arusha International Conference Center (AICC) was established under the public cooperation’s Act, 1969, by a presidential order through the Government Notice number 115, published on 25th August, 1978.The Centre is wholly owned by the Government and operates under the purview of the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation through which it reports to the parliament. It was established to manage and control the Headquarters’ Complex and all other premises and lands in Arusha Municipality which belong to the dismissed East Africa Community Managing Director.
It operates as fully-fledge commercial entity without government donations. The provision of the conference services is the core business. The Centre also provides medical services with 32-bed capacity hospital in Arusha. Recently, in line with the AICC Act, the Government handled the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNIC) in Dar es Salaam to AICC to own and manage
The AICC lies in the heart of the Arusha City, half way between Cape Town and Cairo, only a stone’s throw away from African’s greatest mountain, Mt.Kilimanjro and the safari-gate way to the amazing wildlife of Ngorongoro crater, The Serengeti, Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks.
The center has a total of ten (10) meeting rooms with a seating capacity from 10 in the breakout rooms to 1350 delegates in the main auditorium. In addition the center has reserve rooms for receiving VIP’s and other distinguished public figures.
All major rooms are fitted with modern conference equipment such as the simultaneous interpretation system (SIS), multimedia (LCD), projectors and other audio-visuals. The average total occupancy for all the meeting rooms when in use in about 2,500 delegates. The center hosts an average number of 11,000 conference delegates per year, thus contributing immensely to the social-economic development of the City and the country at large. 3
