MEANING OF INTRANET AND EXTRANET WITH THEIR IMPORTANCE

An intranet is the generic term for a collection of private computer networks within an organization. An intranet uses network technologies as a tool to facilitate communication between people or work groups to improve the data sharing capability and overall knowledge base of an organization's employees.
An organization's intranet typically includes Internet access but is firewalled so that its computers cannot be reached directly from the outside. An intranet uses mostly the TCP/IP, HTTP, and other Internet protocols and in general looks like a private version of the Internet. With tunneling, companies can send private messages through the public network, using the public network with special decryption and other security safeguards to connect one part of their intranet to another. Also the main purpose of an intranet is to share company information and computing resources among employees. An intranet can also be used to facilitate working in groups and for teleconferences. While
An extra-net is a controlled private network allowing customers, partners, vendors, suppliers and other businesses to gain information, typically about a specific company or educational institution, and do so without granting access to the organization's entire network. An extranet is often a private part of a website. It is restricted to select users through user IDs, passwords and other authentication mechanisms on a login page. Or
An extranet is basically a private network designed specifically to allow these individuals (clients, vendors, suppliers, partners, etc.) to communicate with you and your employees in a closed virtual space. Extranets serve an extremely important role, as they allow for private communication, collaboration, knowledge sharing, document sharing, and data transfer between organizations. can be used to meet a variety of different needs. Large volumes of data can be exchanged between an extranet, parties via extranets, for example, and they can also be used to create collaboration. Though an extranet and intranet may have the same purpose in an organizations also they have their differences in performing their activities so the following are some of those differences of extranet and intranet.
An intranet is a network where employees can create content, communicate, collaborate, get stuff done, and develop the company culture. While an extranet is unlike an intranet, because it provides controlled access to authorized customers, vendors, partners, or others outside the company.
Another thing is an intranet can create confusion to its customers because even their crucial ones can not access the information’s of the organization . While extranet it is not creating confusion because their customers and workers can easily be permitted to get information’s.
All in all despite of their differences intranet and extranet also they have their benefits to corporate communication. So the following are those importance of those two.
Better internal and external communications, intranets and extranet can act as communication channel for staff and even the customers.
